On January 15th, Loughrea and Corrib Oranmore Toastmaster, and Area Director, Carmel Turley, bought the three Galway clubs together for an event at The Salthill Hotel - Masters of Public Speaking.
Speeches and officers came from all three clubs with our members taking on roles. Rob Partridge and James Linnane gave speeches, Bradley Rowles acted as Timekeeper, Martin Foran was an evaluator, Chris Collins acted as President and Michael Joyce took the role of Toastmaster.
It was a well organised and well attended event, as well as being enjoyable and educational.
Well done to Toastmaster Carmel Turley for organising the event and to those who took part.
The videos below show each individual section and at the end is the full video.
The welcomes and hellos.
In Toastmasters members write and present speeches to build confidence and improve their public speaking skills. There are the four prepared speeches from the Masters of Public Speaking event.
To keep our skills growing all speeches, regardless of the level attained, are evaluated. Evaluators give their opinion on the speech and suggestions for improvement. Sometimes it includes a challenge to the speaker.
Martin Foran evaluated Doreen O’Keeffe.
Deirdre Ó Murchadha evaluated Pat Coakley.
Siobhan Fitzgerald evaluated James Linnane.
Frances Geoghagen evaluated Rob Partridge
Ralph C. Smedley said “A meeting you don’t speak at is a wasted meeting,” so Tabletopics is the perfect opportunity for those without a speaking role to say a few words. Tabletopics allows you to develop you impromptu speaking skills which can be beneficial in interviews and similar situations.
Reports and closing statements
To ensure everything had progressed correctly a General Evaluator – Seamus Gallagher – gives a report of the meeting and evaluates the evaluators. The General Evaluator does not evaluate the prepared speeches.
