Open Night – 23rd September 2019

Loughrea Toastmasters will host an open night on Monday 23rd September 2019 at the Loughrea Hotel & Spa. Beginning at 8.00pm (people are asked to arrive for 7.45pm), the event will give a flavour of Toastmasters, the world’s oldest leadership and public speaking organisation.

The volunteer-run club, which is devoted to helping people become better speakers and leaders, meets every other Monday where club members give prepared speeches while other members evaluate and provide useful feedback. Club President Chris Collins said “Loughrea Toastmasters has helped me find my voice, and gain confidence. Many people come to Toastmasters for help with writing a wedding speech, making a work presentation, or to get help with interview skills. Toastmasters can help you with all these, but can also do so much more.”

The newest club in the Galway area has seen many successes in its first 12 months with members winning speech contests in the categories of Humorous Speech and International Speech. Rob Partridge went on to represent not only his club and area but the division at the Humorous speech contest in Norwich in May, fighting for a place in the final against speakers from all over Ireland, Scotland, Wales and England. With the contests for this season starting soon Loughrea is will be looking to repeat this success.

To add to the contest success Martin Foran, the current Immediate Past President, has been elected as District Finance Manager, dealing with the funds and finances of all the clubs in Ireland and the UK’s district 71, while Rob Partridge has been elected as Division Director, having responsibility for over 20 clubs in his area. Both of them credit their Toastmasters journey for their success in the contests and the selections.

At the open evening there will be a chance to hear some great speeches from members at different stages of their Toastmasters journey. Entry on the night is free of charge for guests, and members will be available to chat about how Toastmasters has helped them during the refreshment break. Membership information will also be available for those thinking of joining.
