Dear Reader,

Thank you for visiting the Loughrea Toastmasters web site.  Since you’re here, I’m guessing you have some interest in what Toastmasters is, and does for its members.

First, let me introduce myself.  I’m a Limerick man, who married a local girl, and now lives in Loughrea with my family.  I’m proud to report, that I currently serve as Club President for Loughrea Toastmasters.  A role that I will serve for the current year, and will pass on to a fellow member at the next committee election.

Don’t let the title fool you.  I still consider myself quite a novice in the Toastmaster world.  I’ve been involved in Loughrea Toastmasters since its inception, about 2 years ago.  In that time we’ve taken our fledgling club to full chartered status, meaning we’re a fully recognised club of Toastmasters International, with all the rights and responsibilities that entails.

The mission of Toastmasters International is to empower individuals to become more effective communicators and leaders.  We achieve this as a club by providing a supportive and positive learning experience in which members are empowered to develop communication and leadership skills, resulting in greater self-confidence and personal growth.

Regardless of what you want to achieve, either personally or professionally, you’re going to need help to do it.  Being able to coordinate and collaborate with others is a skill that will pay dividends in all walks of life.  At Toastmasters we offer a self-paced educational pathway, where projects will teach you how to effectively communicate and lead by …
… giving and receiving feedback,
… being mentored, or being a mentor to others,
… learning how to host effective meetings,
… planning projects, and overcoming adversities,
… persuading, and inspiring fellow team members, even those reluctant to accept your point of view,
… and many other aspects of leadership.

How you use these skills is up to you, but I can guarantee you, with these skills to draw on, you will become more confident and self-assured.  Better able to handle the slings and arrows of outrageous fortune.

We pride ourselves on our welcome, and we would love to welcome you as a guest to any of our regular meetings.  We occasionally run open-nights where we make an even more special effort to introduce Toastmasters to guests.  Keep an eye on our social media, and calendar for the dates and times of upcoming meetings.

I look forward to meeting you in person at Loughrea Toastmasters, where leaders are made.

Sincerely,
Chris Collins
Club President
