The theme for the meeting was: Black & White

The word of the night, chosen by Gwen Fraser, our Grammarian, was Straightforward


Tabletopics

Our Topicsmaster for the night was Francesca Stratta.

My thoughts on the topics session
Topics were varied and well received with a lot of participation. Francesca stuck to the theme.

There were 6 topics and 10 add-ons.

Prepared Speeches

Speaker One

The first speaker was Yuliya Dzerhachova.
The title of their speech was “Speaking English.”
It was from the Dynamic Leadership Pathway.
The were evaluated by Fiona Mitchell.
The were allowed a time of 4-6 Minutes.
The used 5:44.
My thoughts on the speech
Lovely insight into Yuliyas life and a great ice breaker.

Speaker Two

The second speaker was Mary Kilbane.
The title of their speech was “Gran Canaria.”
It was from the Motivational Strategies Pathway.
The were evaluated by James Linnane.
The were allowed a time of 5-7 minutes.
The used 7:02.
My thoughts on the speech
Well researched speech. Mary joined us from Gran Canaria which was a nice touch and shows dedication to Toastmasters.

Speaker Three

The third speaker was Beth DavisReinhold.
The title of their speech was “Completed Project.”
It was from the Leadership Development Pathway.
The were evaluated by Chris Collins.
The were allowed a time of 5-7 minutes.
The used 7:40.
My thoughts on the speech
Well structure and very humorous.


Evaluations

Evaluator One

The evaluator was Fiona Mitchell
Did they announce the pathway? Yes
Did the read the purposes of the speech? No

My thoughts the evaluation
A good evaluation with some great feedback. Fiona mentioned gestures, stance and the use of pause. Good recommendations of practicing at home and varying volume.

Evaluator Two

The evaluator was James Linnane
Did they announce the pathway? Yes
Did the read the purposes of the speech? Yes

My thoughts the evaluation
Started with “What impressed me most…” which I think was a lovely and positive way to start a speech. Gave a personal element to his evaluation which is always welcome. Good recommendation about gestures.

Evaluator Three

The evaluator was Chris Collins
Did they announce the pathway? Yes
Did the read the purposes of the speech? Yes

My thoughts the evaluation
Chris mentioned what Beth had asked him to look our for and how he’s accomplished this. Good comments about her use of gestures and vocal variety. Good recommendation about taking the speech formal.

Grammarian

Gwen gave a great report which included some nice uses of phrases and quotes.

Ah Counter

Excellent report that made a clear point without naming and shaming.

Creative Corner

Diane did an amazing job at keeping with the traditions of Loughrea Toastmasters. Playing the Bodrun and singing.


General Thoughts/Comments

Did the meeting start on time? Yes
Was a printed agenda available? Yes
Were any changes announce? No Changes
Did the Sergeant at Arms greet people warmly? Yes
Were guests invited to speak? No Guests, No
Were essential announcements made by the Toastmaster Yes

My thoughts on Carmel Turley who was the Toastmaster for the night.
Carmel did an amazing job. Very professional and kept the meeting running to time.

My thoughts on the meeting:

A very enjoyable meeting. Fun and educational.

Recommendations

Keep the fun but make things more formal.
